Didn't your mother always tell you to "take a jacket"?

While the weather man is busy making up his mind whether it is actually summer and summer to stay, the wise fashion conscious woman is always prepared. Introducing the Bolero; The Shrug, The Skimpy Cardi, The 3/4 Jacket. A little something to put on in the evenings or cloudy afternoon.

Why do we love them? The Bolero is light weight and small enough to fold into your handbag. They are flattering and feminine, accentuating your "little waist". Unlike our friend the Cardigan, the Bolero is often a tailored crop, with a 3/4 length sleeve - nothing too heavy around the wrist. The Bolero won't detract from your gorgeous summer dress or fitted top. Wear open or button across the chest.

I've found four that tick all our boxes. Throw one in your bag this summer, go on, do what your mother told you!

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String ...and a Riley Burnett please!

Up there amongst our all time "Favourite Things", there are Jewels.  And in this world there are some jewels that universally speaking, make a girl go Oooh Ahhhh - Kazuri Beads in Kenya, a DeBeer cut Diamond, Tatitian Black Pearls, an Imperial Jade from ancient China.

Right now, its the east coast of Australia that's got women of all ages cooing and asking their girlfriends "Is that a RILEY BURNETT"?

They're a little bit "Gemalicious" - Necklaces full of light and colour and playful design, but with all the real bling that makes ears prick at the mention of the label. Jennie Riley and Jason Burnett are "Riley Burnett"; an Australian Artisan Design house located in sub-tropical Lennox Head, New South Wales.

Riley Burnett began during as a year long sojourn throughout Italy in 2004. Somewhere between the Galeria Masini and a supper of Pesce along the Cinque Terre coastline, Jennie and Jason began collecting semi precious stones. Upon returning to Australia, the couple established their label, focusing on hand made signature pieces using Stirling Silver and the finest Agate, Carnelian, Lapis Lazuli, Onyx, Turquoise and Crystal stones, to name just a few.

Right now, Jennie's designs are gaining cult-like status as the collective Australian and European markets echo our Ooooh Ahhhhs.

Despite their transcontinental beginnings, Jen and Jason are determined to keep their business local, refusing to manufacture offshore. Handmade Designer Jewelery is the hallmark of any Riley Burnett Necklace, no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Oh and just for the record..."Brown Paper Packages" are still guaranteed to make a girls eyes fill with delight!

Adelaide Designer Luisa Fredrica - In this edition of SA Style Magazine

I couldn't help but notice the Luisa Fredrica designs featured in this months edition of SA Style Magazine.

I had heard people rave about this label and proudly add that she is an Australian designer, which led me to dig a little deeper and find out a touch more. WHO IS LUISA FREDRICA?

The passion, flair and innovation behind this label comes from a designer named Samantha Reding. Who  launched into the fashion spot light four years ago, turning heads with her first collection using vintage Japanese fabrics such as the Kimono and Obi sash.

Inheriting the designer gene from her mother (also a fashion designer for over 20 years), Reding grew up in Australia but has since lived and worked the world over and it shows in her design.  Her modern grasp on sustainable practice in the fashion industry is something else to love about this label. Using a blend of luxury fabrics such as silk and the finest linens, with organic cottons, milk and bamboo fabrics.

Her designs have also featured in international Fashion Magazines such as 'Grazia' and 'Bazaar'.

We are very excited to support this Australian Designer! The stunningly bold geomentric design featured in this edition of SA Style Magazine is a part of her exotic "Dark Summer Collection".

Impulse Boutique's Online store has this gorgeous print in two designs, the Scoop Print Shift Dress and the 3/4 length Shirt Dress.

Very Cool!

Check out the pages from inside SA Style Magazine.

Newsletter on its way

If you are a subscriber of a Impulse Boutique's newsletter, then it is very much likely that you will receive a new one today. It's all about festive season and styling advice this time. At Impulse Boutique, we think it is important to provide excellent customer service and keep our loyal customers updated on promotions, new items and key looks. We hope you enjoy it.

Last week I came across this article on WomenInBusiness.com.au. I can relate to it. Every time I participate on sending a newsletter, I've got butterflies in my stomach too.

This is what Clare Lancaster wrote:

"Every Friday morning I can guarantee you of one thing. I've got butterflies in my stomach and I'm about to press send on an email that whooshes down the wires and into over 1700 inboxes. I quickly click away to my stats and see who's opened it. I see my old faithfuls. The readers who always pounce on it and click through nearly every link and make me smile. Then I wait for unsubscribes. It's usually one or two of the fifty or so that sign up during the week. It used to get me down, but it doesn't any more. They're usually people who've signed up expecting something different."

Garden party and nicely dressed women

Being in mid-thirties and having quite a bit older partner changed the way I look at older women. I look at them with admiration and respect. They seem wise, well-presented and immaculately dressed. Today we were invited to a party (friends of my partner, so most women and men were in their fifties). I couldn't help but compliment one of our good friend's outfit. She looked really great. She smiled and said: 'I got it from Impulse!'. And I could say straight away - she was wearing white Mela Purdie pants, white basic top and blueberry sleeveless Vigorella tunic. A perfect outfit for a garden party. There was another lady (I didn't have the opportunity to talk to her, I was just busy chasing after our two-year old boy) and she was wearing really nice and flattering clothes too. I really liked her necklace. It looked a bit like this. That would actually make a nice present for my sister, I thought.

My Affair with Vigorella

Vigorella and I have been eyeing each other off for a couple of weeks now. Each time someone orders her clothes online, or comes into the shop to pick up something new in her line, I take a look at their purchase with quiet curiosity - What piece did she buy? Did she go for one of the bright and colourful pieces or something to add to her staple basics collection?

My quiet affair with this label began whilst shooting a few pieces for the webstore. At first I noticed the stretch fabric and the simple but unique cuts. Every dress, every top or tunic I pulled over the mannequins head fell effortlessly over a pair of 3/4 cropped leggings. I'd go back to the rack to layer another piece and would have trouble putting it on the model. "That's enough," I'd think. Two maybe three pieces and the look was complete - stylish and simple. Made from the same stretch fabric, the tops and tunics and dresses all went perfectly together. So little styling!

Women tell me all the time they want to wear colour and they want to hide this or that - well ladies this is your new favourite designer. You'll be wearing Vigorella on the weekend, out shopping, and out to dinner. How can this be? Well given the slight shimmer in the fabric and the fact that her pieces all ways keep their "first worn" shape and that the colours don't fade, once you accessorize with a little silver bling and some black shoes, you'll not only be the most comfortable woman out, but the most stylish. And isn't that what fashion is all about...making style look effortless on you?
